One Day Workshop by Mr. Parag Varde

Chess Excellence Institute formerly known as Learn Chess Mumbai’s first One-Day Workshop for Advanced-Players on Sunday, 19th November 2016 at its Mira Road chapter - The Chess Academy, was a runaway success. Renowned player and trainer Mr. Parag Varde (ELO 2287) graced the occasion in the capacity of ‘Guest Trainer,’ imparting useful insights to the participants in the area of Opening Repertoire Building.

Parag sir is famous for his knack of captivating children by conversing with them in their own jargon. The children had an ample experience of this as they enjoyed every moment of this two-hour interaction, picking-up several handy tips and insights that would prove extremely beneficial at the time of competition.Sixteen advanced-level players including four Internationally rated players participated in this six-hour workshop conducted in three sessions of two hours each.

The first session saw FI. Prasad Deshmukh emphasising on Key Middle Game Concepts. A break of 15 minutes followed, during which the children were served refreshments. In the second session Mr. Parag Varde guided the participants on Openings and in the third session a 5m/3s Blitz tourney was conducted, top finishers of which were later awarded medals.
After the tourney, Parag sir voluntarily offered to play with all the participants simultaneously, which came as a surprise to all and the children readily agreed.

Thus, an impromptu but thrilling session of ‘Simultaneous Exhibition,’ lasting almost an hour, began.
The workshop concluded with a quick address to the assembled parents followed by a quicker Prize Distribution Ceremony.
